Date and Time: Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 at 9:00 AM
Overview: Cong. Beyer was raised in northern VA where his father founded an auto sales dealership -- which was expanded later in life by Don and his brother. He attended Gonzaga College High and went on to graduate from Williams College with a degree in economics. He has been very active in politics, civic activism, and diplomacy. Cong. Beyer was elected Lieutenant Governor of VA in 1989, and re-elected in 1993, and then after the 2008 election of Barack Obama was selected to be the US Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, a post in which he served from 2009-2013. In 2014, he announced his intention to run for the House seat being vacated by the retirement of Cong. Jim Moran. He is now in his second term representing the VA-08 district. For many of our GRA members, Cong. Beyer may be their constituent member.
Cong. Beyer now serves on the Science, Space, and Tech Committee, and the Natural Resources Committee -- two committees important to his VA constituents and the many tech companies located in northern VA. He has been a leader on such issues as advocacy for citizens with disabilities, working to reduce high school dropout rates, and to promote pro-business policies that support VA business
